How are the funds raised used?
When you make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, you are helping fund research on heart disease and stroke as well as helping to develop innovative heart health promotion and prevention tools aimed at ensuring the health and well-being of all.
A $5 donation offers a personalized online risk assessment, to help that person evaluate and manage his or her risk factors of stroke or heart disease.
Two $5 donations pay the printing fees for 150 brochures describing the warning signs of a heart attack or stroke which, if recognized and treated quickly, can be life-saving.
Five $5 donations can contribute three copies of Heart and Soul to parents of children born with congenital heart disease (cardiopathy), so as to help them take better care of their child and cope with this dramatic event.
Seven $5 donations can give a young underprivileged student a CPR Anytime kit, to teach him (or her) the basic CPR techniques.
160 $5 donations will supply three elementary school classes with the On the Road to a Happy Heart program which offers unique and dynamic activities to teach students the importance of eating well and being active.
1,000 $5 donations will provide a recreational center, a work place or any other public place the opportunity to buy an automated external defibrillator (AED) and offer training for the designated personnel. When used immediately, defibrillation increases the survival chances of a person suffering a heart attack by 50%.
3,600 $5 donations will finance an entire year's worth of cardiovascular research for a Master's degree medical student.
